SATURDAY SPECIAL

Oct. 29, 2019

It will be hockey heaven on Saturday for fans who enjoy the sport.

The Grande Peace Athletic Club and Peace Country Female Athletic Club are joining forces to offer up a smorgasbord of games in the Coca-Cola Centre in Grande Prairie.

A total of eight games will be played on the two ice sheets in the Coke Can - seven GPAC clubs and two PCFAC teams will be taking part in what is being called the first GPAC/PCFAC  Day.

GPAC president Tyler Stojan has been part of the first two GPAC Days and is looking forward to the first GPAC/PCFAC event.

"This day is a fantastic opportunity for our program to show appreciation to all of our sponsors, players, coaches, parents and the zone," said Stojan. "We are very proud of all of the players who play on our teams who come from all over our zone to represent GPAC.

"It's also a great day to bring together the Junior A Storm, PCFAC and Grande Prairie Minor Hockey to celebrate the sport."

The day kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with the annual Battle of the Peace when the two GPAC teams in the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League - Dreger Racing Team Storm and Higson Dental Group Storm - tangle. Last game in the Coke Can is at 7:45 p.m. when the Peaceland Directional Drilling Storm and Whitecourt Wolverines of the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League take to the ice.

The public is also invited to visit the Chris McMillan Room in the Coca-Cola Centre to view hockey-related educational videos.

Everyone is also invited to head over to Revolution Arena to watch the Alberta Junior Hockey League Storm when they host the Bonnyville Pontiacs at 7:30 p.m.

The day includes a progressive 50/50 and a silent auction. There is no admission fee.

"I would like to encourage people from Grande Prairie as well as the entire Peace Country to come down to check out some fantastic, fast-paced hockey and cheer on all of your local Storm teams," said Stojan.

The PCFAC is represented by the Bonnett's Bantam Elite Storm and the Prestige Mechanical Midget Elite Storm.

The Female Bantams take on Leduc 2:45 p.m. and the Female Midgets tangle with Red Deer at 5:15 p.m.

"PCFAC is very excited to take part in showcasing female athletes in our zone," said PCFAC president Kara Sallis. "We are representing areas from LaCrete to Baytree, Spirit River to Horse Lake and High Prairie. The interest in the female game continues to grow and when you can put teams on the ice that a young girl can look at and say 'I want to play on the Storm team' it gives these young girls an attainable goal that we are please to foster."
